I create hand built surrealist faces through whimsy and uncertainty.
In a way, the exploration of my style was out of happenstance. I wanted to continue building my skills through sculpture. I made the face based on how I felt a certain day.
I don’t aim for anything specific, but I desire to express feelings of nostalgia through the art as well. Ancient cultures from around the world use sculpture to commemorate ancestors and events of the past. In turn, I want to solidify items from my past into my own future. Similarities to “Pot of Greed” from Yu-Gi-Oh, “Aku Aku” from Crash Bandicoot and a plethora of craziness from Ah! Real Monsters! continue finding their way into my clay creations.
The happy, the sad, the angry and crazy. Atmospheric firings bring a sense of uncertainty to the form. In a moment, a smile could turn into a frown. Alterations and attachments provide the backdrop to vast differences between each solid soul. There’s demons within us all. The fire helps to bring them out.
